There are a lot of businesses out there but the difference between a bunch of them and the really successful ones who stay in business for several years is customer engagement. According to an American business magazine, INC, customer engagement is the new marketing. As a business person, you must focus on your customers, not just to satisfy them, but to ensure that they do not leave you to patronize your competitor. How to achieve this? Focus on getting your customers’ data and use it to your advantage. According to a 2019 Gallup report, businesses that deliver the highest levels of customer impact have 72 percent more fully engaged customers. Ask yourself this question – how am I adding value to my customers? Do not always believe that as long as you get them to patronize your product or service, the relationship is over. This is the wrong way to do business in 2019. You should be focused on creating added value, so, your customers feel at home with your business and would never take their patronage elsewhere, no matter what. First off, you need to bring that sense of home to your customers. Depending on the type of business you run, but you should have your customers’ data. Once you have these, create your customer engagement strategies. Deloitte says that “Every consumer wants a different experience when shopping and that experience has become the differentiating factor for many successful business models. “However, businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to predict what consumers want as their expectations continue to change.” This is why you must always talk to your customers to get a sense of the kind of user experience they want. Consider the following; Who are your customers? Where do they live? What are their current stations in life?What are the various channels they use when interacting with you? Emails? Phone calls? Physical Visits to your store? Whatsapp?How convenient are their user experiences?What are their behavioral patterns during business interactions? All these will help you identify what they need that you are not offering yet. Then you can tailor such needs to your strategies. You should also keep in mind that a lot of customers would rather keep patronizing businesses that understand them and are willing to offer a seamless user experience.
